In 2024, students and staff at Texas Hill Country School Residential Program came together to participate in a wide range of community service projects that supported local needs and promoted sustainability. These initiatives not only strengthened the bonds within their school community but also provided much-needed assistance to their neighbors.
Throughout the year, students took part in two non-perishable food drives, where they had the opportunity to shop for and donate items to the local food bank. In addition to donating, several students volunteered regularly at the food bank, sorting donations, and helping to ensure that families in need had access to essential resources.
Students also supported various other drives, including a collection of enrichment items for the local animal shelter, box fans for the annual Salvation Army summer fan drive, and a sock drive to provide warmth to residents of a nearby assisted living facility during the winter holidays. These drives were a testament to the students’ commitment to meeting the diverse needs of the community.
In the holiday season, staff and students spread cheer by caroling for neighbors and ringing bells for the Salvation Army to collect donations. These acts of kindness brought joy to many while supporting the ongoing work of local charitable organizations.
In the warmer months, the school focused on environmental stewardship by participating in the “Keep San Marcos Beautiful” initiative. Students volunteered to clean up litter in local parks and helped organize activities for the community’s Earth Day celebration, furthering their commitment to sustainability.
Looking ahead to 2025, they are excited to announce they have adopted Paul Pena Park in San Marcos. As part of this new project, they will be responsible for maintaining the park and ensuring it remains clean and safe for their neighbors to enjoy. This marks just the beginning of the many service projects planned for the year ahead.
